Hand stitched about 1825, an exquisite small sampler is signed "Susan Ameson, her work," and bears a Biblical quote from Ecclesiastes 9:10 plus the motto, "Fear God, Honour the King." Late Georgian period folk art, this exquisite embroidery on a linen panel predates the ascension of Queen Victoria in 1837.
Like the work of all proper 19th century girls, this wonderful artistic panel would have been proudly displayed in the family parlor, proving the girl's skill and accomplishment. Soft colors include angels, crowns and the usual alphabet and numerals.
The later curly maple frame and gold liner are beautiful on this nostalgic heirloom from England. Overall size is just under 9" x 12."
