A French farmhouse wall clock from about 1850 has an brass dial surround embossed with farm animals, and is signed "Plantier fils" (sons) of "Annonay."
This ancient hill town is south of Lyon near the Rhone River. It is famous for the first hot air balloon flight by the Montgolfier brothers.
An 8 day brass "Morbier" design movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time and strikes the hour and the half hour. The winding crank is a modern replacement. There are hairline cracks on the porcelain dial, see photos. Later iron brackets are adjustable for leveling this antique timepiece from France.
The case is 11" wide, 6" deep and height of the case including the original lyre pendulum is 5'.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
