A lovely statue of a young woman from around 1900 is signed "H. Moreau," one of the famous family of sculptors.
Hippolyte Francois Moreau was born in Dijon, France in 1832 and died in 1927. A prolific artist in the Art Nouveau period, his work is in countless museums and collections in France and worldwide. His father and brothers were also renowned sculptors. This naturalistic work of art shows an unselfconscious young lady walking barefoot.
Cast in spelter, a white metal alloy similar to pewter, the antique finish is beautifully patinated. The base is embossed patinated brass.
Size is 10" across the base and 33 1/2" tall.
