Exquisite inlaid marquetry of tulip wood, rosewood and satinwood is gorgeous on the curving case and separate pedestal base of this palatial "Hermle" signed clock from about 25 years ago.
The 8 day brass movement is signed, "FHS Germany," for famous maker, Franz Hermle & Sons of Gosheim in Germany's Black Forest region. It keeps excellent time, playing the familiar Westminster chime tune on each quarter and on the hour, and strikes the hour. Cast bronze mounts including musical cherubs are complete on this European vintage clock.
The original hand rubbed satiny finish is in excellent condition. Exquisite floral marquetry is masterful, even inside the clock case. The embossed dial has porcelain hour makers. Salmon marble on the base has a shaped edge and bright polish.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered, pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Measurements are 15" wide, 10" deep, 76" tall and the pedestal is 46" high.
