A magnificent library bookcase from the north of Italy has sculpted three dimensional figures, iron grillwork and stained glass doors, all entirely original and dating from about 1915.
Masterfully hand carved details include heads, griffins, a painter's palette and a compass, symbols of knowledge and culture.
The original finish is extremely well preserved on walnut wood with very minor mars at the edges. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm antique patina.
Working locks and hardware are also original, three banks of shelves adjust on wooden supports. Hand cut dovetail joinery is visible on the backside.
This monumental furniture can be disassembled for moving.
Measurements are 10' 3" long, 20" deep and 78" tall.
