Authentic New England country furniture from about 1780, this wonderful tall chest of drawers was hand crafted of solid cherry. Expert Yankee workmanship is shown throughout.
The graduated drawers have chamfered bottoms and hand cut dovetails. Square and rose cut nail heads are visible, hand plane marks are everywhere. The fourth drawer from the bottom was rebuilt by a master about 60 years ago for unknown reasons, it is a superb match, see photos.
Old brasses show hand work as well. There are shrinkage separations in the wide side planks, plus repairs to the original feet and glue blocks, the back is rough sawn. Fluted columns and arched drawer fronts are especially charming. The old finish has marvelous color and patina, there are many mars and wear from centuries of use.
Dimensions are 38" wide, 22" deep and 67" tall.
