An outstanding example of 1820's New England woodworking, a solid cherry chest or dresser has "birdseye" grain maple panels and a "chimneypot" backsplash, recalling saltbox houses of the era.
This dresser has expert country craftsmanship with tiny dovetails on the drawers, chamfered bottoms and hand planed back panels. The finish is very fine with exceptional warm patina and color, and just enough mars and wear for a little character. Spiral columns are lovely.
Drawer sides have been restored to slide smoothly, and there is generous storage in this classic American antique. There have been small repairs over the years to the mahogany banding around the birdseye drawerfronts.
Measurements of this brilliant but understated furniture are 50" wide, 23" deep and 52" tall.
