A traditional "table hutch," "chair table" or dining table that flips open to make a bench, was expertly crafted of solid oak about 1900. The original deep almost black finish has been waxed and polished, it is in very good condition with just enough wear for a little antique character, and needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are minor scratches as shown in photos.
Heavy construction plus exposed mortise and tenon joints show Arts and Crafts period influence. Wooden pegs with handles secure the top, and when removed, release the top to raise and become the back of the bench of this antique furniture from Germany.
Measurements when in table mode are 46" long, 28" deep and 29" tall, in bench or chair position, size is 46" long, 47" tall and the seat is 17" high.
