This classic Georgian period Welsh dresser or pewter cupboard is wonderful country oak furniture from around 1770. The top left drawer has a clever secret compartment under a false bottom, opened by raising the back of the drawer.
Entirely hand-made, there are wooden pegs, cut square iron nails and hand-planing marks visible everywhere on this picturesque furniture.
This antique would have descended with the daughters of a family - traditionally a treasured part of a young woman's dowry, filled with her pewter, china and linens.
The removable upper gallery section has shelves for display. Brasses are old but not original, there are repairs of various ages on this charming historic furniture as would be expected. The glowing old finish is very fine with lovely patina and character - see photos of mars, shrinkage separations and wear.
Across the top of the base cabinet are three drawers, below are raised panel doors. Measurements are 54" wide, 20" deep, 5' 11 1/2" tall and the base is 31" high.
