A pair of "campaign" design or Chinese dowry chests can be used separately or stacked. Campaign furniture in the West was made for military officers, portable furniture with flat edges that was stackable for easy transport in the field. This Chinese version from the early 1900's was used for a young woman's dowry of silver, pewter and linens, created to be moved to her new home when she married.
These chests have wrought iron mounts, handles and corner protectors. Hand carved of solid ash hardwood with an excellent restored finish, there are shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Hand planing marks show expert craftsmanship. Drawers are secured with traditional wooden pegs.
We have put glides on the bottoms of this pair to protect from scratching. If stacked, the glides can be removed so the carrying handles with latch the chests securely together.
Each chest measures 37" wide, 16" deep and 20" tall.
