Hand crafted about 1840, this combination writing desk and sewing stand makes a fascinating jewelry chest as well. Clean and delicate lines show Sheraton influence on this East coast American furniture.
Cherry and flame grain mahogany, the finish is in very fine condition with warm antique patina. Ribbon grain mahogany on the top has beautiful "shimmer," the back is finished as well. There are small mars at the edges plus shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Under the lift lid with a working lock is a saddle leather writing area, underneath is storage space. The lower drawer has tiny hand cut dovetails and chamfered bottom, the lock is missing.
Brass wheels are original and dimensions are 20" wide, 18" deep and 29" tall.
