A magnificent standing or stool height desk was expertly hand-crafted about 1835 in Germany or Austria. The front flips open and automatically extends, revealing an interior in genuine rosewood with old tooled leather that is worn and ink stained.
A beautiful curly mahogany exterior has warm antique patina and lots of character - repairs, touchups and shrinkage separations. The satiny finish is excellent on all sides of this historic furniture. All drawers have solid oak sides and tiny hand cut dovetail joinery. There is a locking hidden drawer inside the top right drawer of the base.
Classic and clean lines of this desk show Biedermeier and Empire influence. To open the lid, the key is a handle only, it does not turn the lock. Three separate sections stack to form this historic desk, which measures 5' 6" long, 32" deep, 51" tall, the leather top is 33" high.
