"The Sower," a bronze sculpture of a farmer sowing seeds, is signed by noted artist, "H. Levasseur." A late work by French sculptor, Henri Louis Levasseur (1853-1915), he won the first award at the Paris Salon in 1882. This naturalistic work of art captures the farmer in mid-stride, with his sweeping motion to scatter the seeds.
The deep golden patina is excellent, with little wear and a few spots. On the back side is the foundry mark, engraved "Societie de Bronzes des Paris." The marble plinth is not attached to this circa 1900 statue.
The base is 8" x 9 1/2," total height is almost 20."
