An imposing traditional Georgian style grandfather or tall case clock is signed, "Hamilton of Lancaster County," Pennsylvania, it was custom made for a gentleman, "No. 30 of 175, 1989."
All original, the solid cherry case has an extremely fine glossy finish with brass mounts, inlaid ebony banding, yew panels and shell marquetry. Glass panes are beveled on this American made vintage furniture.
The brass movement is signed "Made in Germany," and runs accurately for a week on a winding. There is a lever to choose the familiar Westminster melody, Whittington or St. Michael's tunes or silent. Another lever controls "silent or strike." The clock plays a bar of the melody on each quarter hour, then counts the hour as well.
Solid brass winding crank, pendulum with lyre hanger and brass weights are all original. There is a moon dial.
Measurements are 25" wide, 17" deep and 86" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
