The Aesthetic Movement (a relative of the Eastlake Period) is late Victorian, around 1875, and produced fabulous pieces like this ebonized cherrywood bookcase. The carved panels are stellar, consummate hand artistry against a textured or tooled background.
The satiny black finish is original with some touch-up over the years. Shelves are adjustable on both sides, brasses and wavy glass in the doors are all original.
Measurements of this American antique furniture are 5' wide, 15" deep and 5 1/2' tall.
