This late Victorian or Eastlake period "Metamorphic" chair folds open into a library step stool. Carved of solid walnut about 1870, there are numerous old repairs. American made, the porcelain wheels are original.
Reglued to be sturdy for another generation, the restored finish preserves lots of mars for antique character.
Measurements in chair position is 17" wide, 20" deep, 37" tall and the seat is 18" high. In step position, size is 17" wide, 24" deep and 29" tall.
