Dating from the late Victorian or Eastlake period about 1880 this chaise or fainting couch is solid walnut with burl panels.
Called a "Recamier" in French, we were told in New Orleans that this elegant and luxurious furniture is referred to as a "hussy" couch.
The upholstery has very little wear, porcelain casters are original and removable if desired.
Incised and geometric carving is characteristic of the Eastlake period, and dimensions are 5 1/2' long, 27" deep and 33" tall, the seat is 15" high.
