Originally crafted about 1885 as a washstand for a bowl and pitcher, this commode or chest has a marble top and beveled mirror, and would be a beautiful base for a vessel sink.
Late Victorian or Eastlake design includes fluted moldings and incised carving in solid walnut with burl panel accents.
The "Tennessee Red" marble is original with minor rough spots on the edges, plus an old repair at the bottom left of the backsplash, see photo. The finish is excellent. Round pin and cove dovetailed drawers are characteristic of the period, and this is very solid antique American furniture.
Size is 31" wide, 17" deep, 79" tall, and from the floor to the top of the marble is 29".
