A spectacular two piece bedroom set dates from the late Victorian or Eastlake period about 1880, and comprises a queen size bed and marble top chest or dresser with mirror and secret jewelry drawers.
This set is expertly crafted of solid walnut with matched "oyster" burl panels. The hand-carved in high relief leaf and berry motifs are particularly beautifull, the finish is excellent with warm rich patina.
Deep moldings and artistic details are stunning on this outstanding American antique furniture. Everything fits well and is strong and solid. The chest has candle stands on both sides of the swivel beveled mirror. Engraved brasses are original, drawers have dovetailed joints. Two "secret" jewelry drawers have velvet linings and are difficult to spot on the front, they are released from underneath.
The original marble top contains fossils and is in very fine condition with a few small chips at the edges. Chest or dresser measurements are 4' wide, 23" deep, 6' 11" tall and the marble is 30" high.
The bed has been adapted utilizing the original carved side rails to fit standard modern queen size bedding as shown in the photos. Bed size is 5' 5" wide, 7' 4" long, the headboard is 6' tall and the footboard is 38" tall.
