Pewter German Antique Covered Beer Stein or Pitcher, Signed & Dated 1796

A pewter beer stein or covered pitcher was engraved "Johan Leonhardt Stellwag, 1796." There are dings and mars plus old repairs soldered at the handle of this antique from Germany, see photos.
A worn stamp on the handle may be from a weights and measures inspector.
Measurements are 5 1/4" diameter at the base and 12" tall.
