Shipper: RICK HILL (336-848-1214)
A genuine "Biedermeier" armoire or wardrobe from about 1825 was hand crafted of matched curly birch with ebonized accents. Designed to look like a secretary desk, this antique from Austria has the hand planing marks and chamfered panels of a master cabinetmaker.
The old finish has wonderful warm patina, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the soft luster is an occasional wipe with a dry cloth. There are various mars and losses at the edges plus shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Full columns are well proportioned. There is a secret compartment in the bottom of the upper cabinet.
For easier moving, this historic furniture can be completely disassembled. Keys are handles only, locks do not work.
Biedermeier design is the first style to come from the (upper) middle class rather than from royalty. The clean neoclassical design is almost modern.
Shelves or a closet pole could be added to the empty interior. Measurements are 47" wide, 25" deep and 87" tall.
