A spectacular architectural salvage library wall with fireplace mantel, clock and bookcases from Belgium dates from about 1890.
Expertly hand carved of solid oak, the finesse and artistry are remarkable. Filigree piercing, paw feet and shell motifs are masterful. Raised panels and chisel marks are authentic.
The top of the mantel is revarnished for durability, the rest of the finish is original. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Locks and keys work on this European antique furniture, which disassembles into four pieces for easier delivery.
The original brass clock movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time and chimes the familiar Westminster tune on the quarter hour and counts the hour as well.
Hand engraved, the original brass and pewter dial is richly detailed. The maker's signature is difficult to decipher, see photos.
Measurements are 10' 2" wide, 27" deep and 8' 3" tall, the fire opening is 45 1/2" wide and 32-35" high.
