A traditional dowry chest is folk art from Java, then the Dutch East Indies. Hand hewn and richly carved of solid teak, this rugged trunk is around 75 years old.
There are restorations and losses for antique character on this furniture, carved with a dancing "Ganesh" elephant figure. Mortise joints are exposed and every surface shows the expert hand work of a native carpenter.
Size is 37" wide, 17" deep and 30" tall.
