A rugged drum shaped solid brass mortar and pestle was used by an apothecary in a drug store from about 1900. Very heavy weight and rugged, this was used to compound and grind medicine.
Size of the mortar is 5 1/2" in diameter, the pestle is 8 1/2" long.
