This signed "Wooton Rotary Desk" was carved of solid walnut with burl panels in the 1870's. A swing out compartment has cubbyholes for filing papers on this Victorian period office or library furniture.
The restored finish is in excellent condition. Inside are small drawers with curly or "birdseye" maple fronts and the pull out writing surface with new saddle leather.
The burl cylinder or barrel roll top glides open and closed smoothly. Spindle galleries are original, drawers have hand cut dovetail joints.
This amazing desk was one of the inventions of William S. Wooton of Indianapolis, Indiana. His desks were owned by three American presidents, John D. Rockefeller and Queen Victoria.
Measurements are 47" wide, 60" wide when opened, 30" deep, 61 1/2" tall and the writing surface is 31 1/2" high.
