A Victorian walnut and marble balance scale dates from about 1880. Used for pharmaceuticals, gold or silver, this authentic American antique still works, it would have been used with a separate set of weights.
The solid walnut base has a restored finish and supports a marble top that has a few drug stains, and has been polished and sealed. Brass mounts are original, glass pans are later. Behind a glass porthole in the the front are pointers that indicate balance.
Size is 18 1/2" wide, 9" deep and 7" tall.
