A genuine bronze statue of a young woman representing the bounty of the ocean dates from around 1900, and is signed, "H. Moreau." She carries the traditional trident of Neptune, god of the sea and stands above dolphins. This French Art Nouveau period antique sculpture has a marble base.
Hippolyte Francois Moreau (1832-1927) was one of the famous French family of sculptors. He studied in Paris with his brothers, and won medals at the World's Fair in 1878 and 1900. His work is in museums across the world, with the largest collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon, France.
Size of this work of art is 5" across the marble pedestal and 15" tall.
