An Art Deco period grandfather or long case clock from the 1940's is walnut with a matched burl panel. Dial glass is convex, the door pane is shaped and beveled.
Signed "Gufa," for "Gutenbacher Uhrenfabrik," the brass movement runs for a week on a winding, by pulling chains on the weight. This German vintage clock has been professionally serviced and oiled, and keeps excellent time. The familiar Westminster chime plays on each quarter hour and the hour is also counted. There is a silent lever as well. The nickel or silver dial is beautiful, signed "Foreign," and brass weights and pendulum are original.
The original hand rubbed silky finish on the matched and banded case is very well preserved. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Size is 21" wide, 13" deep and 74" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
