A wonderful Renaissance design armoire, wardrobe or closet was hand hewn of solid wormy walnut about 1780 in Italy. Every surface is hand planed, joints have wooden pegs. The wrought iron lock and lift off hinges are original, a giant key turns the latch.
The old finish is very well preserved, waxed and buffed so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are warps, restorations and shrinkage separations from age plus mars for a little antique character on this truly antique furniture.
Panels are raised and shaped. The interior is empty, there are supports where shelves or a closet pole could be installed if desired. The paneled back is oak.
Size is 59" wide tip to tip, 25" deep and 85" tall. The inside is 18" deep. This historic piece has a removable crown but does not disassemble, so care should be taken with measurements for delivery.
