This large and comfortable traditional "Windsor" chair was hand carved in England about 1820, the seat is a single plank of elm. Every spindle is hand shaped of various hardwoods. There are warps and shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
The old finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the glowing luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The frame is strong and durable, reglued to serve another generation.
Size is 24 1/2" wide, 24" deep, 44" tall and the seat is 17 1/2" high.
