Hand crafted about 1770, this Country French armoire, wardrobe or closet is solid oak with inlaid banding and marquetry of walnut and birch. Every surface is hand planed, panels are raised and carved wooden pegs secure the joints.
The old finish is very well preserved with warm patina, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the soft luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Doors have original lift off hinges, brass hardware appears original.
There is a key for the right door lock only, a hole in the center divider allows the left door hook to be opened. There is a later closet pole inside, interior depth is 18." Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints.
This antique Provincial furniture from France is very heavy and does not disassemble, so care should be taken with measurements for delivery.
Size is 68" wide tip to tip, 25" deep and 86" tall.
