An authentic Louis XV Country French armoire or wardrobe was hand carved of solid wormy fruitwood about 1760. Every surface is hand planed, joints have wooden pegs and door panels are shaped and raised. The giant wrought iron lock and key still work. On the top of this antique French furniture is a carved royal Fleur de Lis motif.
The old finish is in remarkably fine condition, waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are shrinkage separations, warps and various restorations over the centuries, see photos.
Inside are old newspaper as wallpaper and storage and shipping labels from Paris. There is a shelf with a later closet pole, more shelves could be added if desired.
Doors have lift off hinges, but this historic cabinet does not break down, so measurements should be taken for access at delivery.
Dimensions are 57" wide at the crown, 25" deep and 83" tall, interior depth is 21."
