This tall country table makes a charming kitchen island, stool height dining or wine and cheese tasting table. Carved of maple about 1840, this rustic furniture has an inscription underneath calling it a tavern table from the Zoar colony in Ohio, but it may have been intended for display in a dry goods store. The Utopian community of German religious dissenters flourished from 1817-1853, and was often compared to the Shaker settlements.
The old worn finish has great antique patina and been preserved with clear varnish. There are shrinkage separations from age plus holes and mars for a little character.
