A splendid 1890 era bookcase is from the Black Forest, where Germany, Switzerland and France meet. Deeply hand carved art, literature and music motifs plus spiral columns are authentic.
The original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain the warm luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are minor warps and shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Hand sculpted moldings are well proportioned. Shelves adjust on wooden supports, doors have a working lock. The hand dovetailed drawer has a animal head pull on this remarkable antique library furniture.
Dimensions are 56" wide at the crown, 21" deep and 86" tall.
