This solid bronze sculpture of a Revolutionary War "Minuteman" volunteer soldier is about 25 years old and was signed "Alan Cottrill." This vintage statue has a wonderful rough texture. The base is walnut and revolves.
Cottrill was born in 1952 and raised in the Appalachian region of Ohio. His father was a milkman and mother a homemaker. The first in his family to graduate from high school, he studied at the National Academy of Design as well as human anatomy at Columbia Medical Center.
During his studies, he took numerous trips to Europe to study the world’s greatest sculptures in person. He may have the largest number of bronze statues by any living sculptor, with commissioned monuments throughout the United States. Cottrill maintains a studio and gallery in Zanesville, Ohio.
