Hand carved statues with the snake of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing, support the top of this 1860 era bench, which could be a wide screen tv console.

The Hippocratic Oath of Physicians is associated with this ancient symbol, and the Bible mentions it as well: "Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live." So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived." -Moses, Numbers 21:8-9.

Solid oak, there are mars, later nails and stains for antique character. The finish is in very good condition, the top has been revarnished.

Furniture In the Renaissance manner from France, dimensions are 52" long, 17" deep and 20 1/2" tall.
