A Georgian period tall case or grandfather clock from about 1820 is signed by famous maker, "Robert Dalgliesh of Falkirk," Scotland. The dial has flower vines and dolphin head sea serpents, in a nod to the sea coast.
The restored finish is in excellent condition, preserving just enough mars and shrinkage separations from age for a little antique character, see photos. Mahogany is inlaid with ebony banding and flame grain panels on this antique furniture.
The brass movement has been professionally cleaned, oiled and adjusted to keep accurate time. It runs for a week on a winding, counting the hour on a bell. The crank and brass pendulum appear original.
Dalgliesh was active 1796-1832 in Falkirk, once voted the most beautiful town in Scotland.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Measurements are 24 1/2" wide tip to tip, 12" deep and 94" tall to the tip of the brass eagle finial.
