An authentic oak tall case or "grandfather" clock dates from the early 1900's during the Arts and Crafts period, and is signed by premier German maker, "Becker of Freiburg."
All original, this antique from Germany has a very fine dark and rich original finish. Waxed and buffed, it needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its deep luster.
The 8 day brass movement keeps excellent time and is wound by pulling the chains, and has been professionally oiled and adjusted. It strikes the hour and half, there is a pull cord to correct the deep chime if needed.
The hand hammered brass dial, weights and pendulum have a beautiful pewter or nickel wash. There is round convex glass in the upper drawer, lower door panes are all beveled, both doors lock. Small side doors give access to the movement.
Measurements of this sophisticated clock are 20 1/2" wide, 11" deep and 7' 1" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
