A fabulous armoire was crafted of intricate birdseye maple and faux "bamboo" about 1875. It would also serve very well as a bookcase, china or curio display cabinet.
The "bamboo" moldings are actually exotic purpleheart wood, with an original ebony finish. This style of Japanese inspired furniture was a rage during the Victorian period, President Hayes had similar furniture in the White House.
The old finish has been revarnished, it has warm glowing patina. A large drawer has hand cut dovetail joints. Three interior shelves are later, the plate glass in the door has a wide bevel.
American made antique furniture, this can be disassembled for moving. Measurements are 52" wide, 25" deep, 90" tall and interior depth is 19."
