This Brittany folk tradition pewter cupboard our treasurer is beautifully hand carved. Built of solid chestnut there is exquisite detailing.
The galleries with spindles in the upper section have shelves to display 10," 11," and 12" plates. Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken. Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs.
The finish is excellent on this heirloom furniture, which traditionally descended with the daughters of a family, as part of their dowry. Size of this 50 year old vintage furniture is 55" wide, 79" tall, 18" deep and the base section is 44" high.
