This lovely Art Nouveau bronze statue of a beautiful young woman reading a book is dated 1910. Signed "P. Rigual," this naturalistic work of art represents a thoughtful reader with beautifully draped clothing, lost in her reading and unselfconscious. The glowing "gold dore" patina has slight wear and there may be something missing below her elbow.
Often referred to as Pablo Rigual, his granddaughter contacted us and confirmed his full name was Pedro Ramon Jose Rigual and he was born in Barcelona, not Portugal as often heard March 19, 1863 of french parents, Francois Rigual and Gertrude Miro. He died April 24, 1917 in Paris where he lived all his life and where he raised 3 sons and a daughter.
He created sculpture in bronze, marble and ivory. This elegant antique bronze French artwork is 10" tall.
