Straightforward "Yankee" design is beautiful on this hand crafted solid cherry armoire or wardrobe from about 1840, said to be from Connecticut.
Workmanship is outstanding on this masterful country furniture, the objective seems to have been to use as much of a huge virgin timber cherry tree as possible. There is a secret drawer for valuables.
The glowing finish is in excellent condition with warm patina. All panels are reverse raised and hand chamfered, joints are secured with wooden pegs and square hand cut nails. Large lower drawers have hand cut dovetails. Removable interior dividers and shelves appear original, locks and keys work. The crown and base are rebuilt and removable.
Measurements are 6' wide, 26" deep and 6' 9 1/2" tall.
