This antique "S" curve roll-top desk dates from about 1890 and is paneled and finished on all sides, it is signed "Andrews, Chicago." The rich deep finish is in excellent condition, and the frame is solid mahogany.
Cast heavy weight bronze roll pulls and embossed key escutcheon are original. Deep drawers include a large file drawer with dividers, all are dovetailed except for the upper right drawer which was rebuilt. Two pull-out shelves add workspace.
The roll operates smoothly and has a working lock and key, inside are tiny compartments, letter holders and mail slots. The brass lock plate is engraved, "Corbin, Pat. Dec. 16, (18)84." A center drawer lock does not have working keys, it could be keyed by a locksmith if desired.
Clean lines and rich natural wood distinguish this American antique furniture, which can be disassembled for moving.
Size is 5' long, 3' deep, 46" tall, the work area is 30" high, the generous kneehole is 25" wide and just over 25" high.
