An exceptional 1850's hand made tall case or "grandfather" clock has a wonderful Country French walnut and burl case and the original "Morbier" mechanism.
The brass 8 day movement has been cleaned and oiled and keeps excellent time. It strikes the half hour and "double strikes" the hour, in case you weren't paying attention the first time.
Richly figured, the case has columns and a very beautiful old finish. Glass in the doors is wonderfully wavy and engraved brass mounts are original. A "hand" handle on the porthole pendulum door is especially charming.
The porcelain hand painted dial is signed by the maker, "Jean Laturet, a Rive de Gier." Located in central France in the Loire, this historic little city is near Lyon.
This antique furniture and timepiece measures 24" wide, 13" deep and almost 100" tall.
