An authentic Country French tall case or grandfather clock was artistically hand carved around 1830. The "Morbier" design 8 day movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time with a bell strike on the hour and half.
There are touchups to the porcelain dial, see photos. A cast brass rooster surmounts the dial, the door has old wavy glass. Exquisite fine detailing in the wormy solid fruitwood case is charming, there are wooden pegs, square nails and hand planing marks.
The wonderful old finish is in very good condition with just enough mars and wear for antique character. Wrought iron hardware is original. The base has restorations from over a century ago.
Provincial furniture from the south of France, measurements are 20" wide, 14" deep and 101" tall to the top of the gracefully arched crown.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
