An opulent sideboard or server from Denmark about 1880 bears sculptures of jesters, meaning that the family had the honor of once serving as a royal court jester, the only courtier who could tell the truth to the king, often as a "joke."
Artistically hand carved of solid walnut, there are oak leaves and acorns, faces and fluted columns. The original finish is exceptionally well preserved and has been waxed and polished, so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
A panel on the right side has a shrinkage separation from age, see photo. The red marble top has been polished and sealed to resist stains, there is a display gallery above. Drawers have original cast brass pulls and oak sides with hand cut dovetail joints on this heirloom antique furniture from Europe.
Double throw locks and keys still work. Size is 47 1/2" wide, 19" deep, 74" tall and the marble top is 39" high.
