Classic country house furniture from the Empire period, this elegant tall case or grandfather clock is signed "1796, Bistrup," a town in Denmark near the famous Hamlet castle in Helsingor.
The hand carved pine case has shrinkage separations from age and a paint finish that is later. An iron dial is hand repainted under convex glass in the door, the hook is original.
The weekly wind brass movement is in fine working order, keeping excellent time and striking the hour on a bell. Wrought iron hands and brass pendulum appear original as well. A key operates the original lock in the door, the winding crank is modern.
Size of this charming antique clock from Europe is 21" wide, 11" deep and 78" tall.

This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
