An outstanding Empire period dropleaf breakfast or sofa table from about 1825 has masterfully hand carved acanthus and lion paw motifs.
The top and drop leaves are single wide planks of richly figured solid mahogany with gorgeous shimmering grain. There are a few warps and losses at the edges plus shrinkage separations from age for antique character. The renewed gleaming finish is in excellent condition on this American made furniture, said to be from Baltimore.
Both ends have hidden drawers with curved flame mahogany fronts and hand cut dovetail joints. The substantial pedestal has original solid brass wheels.
Size is 41" wide, 23" deep and 28 1/2" tall. When the leaves are raised it is 52" deep.
