English Butler 1880 Antique Secretary Desk, Bookcase, Wavy Glass, Secret Drawers

A traditional English "butler's" desk from about 1880 was intended for the butler of a large estate, who managed the manor, paid bills and supervised the staff of servants.

Glowing mahogany has a fine old finish with some later revarnishing and warm antique patina. Waxed and polished, all that is needed to maintain the warm glow is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.

Matched flame grain panels are beautifully figured. The top "faux" drawer opens with curved brass brackets to a desk that is 31 1/2" above the floor, nice for a stool. Gold tooled leather is inlaid in the writing surface. The interior is trimmed in genuine ebony, including secret drawer fronts.

Upper and lower doors have brass center stiles and working locks on this British country manor furniture. Gothic arches divide old wavy glass panes in the removable bookcase, which has adjustable shelves.

Measurements are 43" wide, 22" deep and 7' 8" tall.
