An authentic Georgian period tall case or grandfather clock was hand crafted about 1825, signed "Demfries" or modern "Dunfries," a river city near the coast.
The mahogany case is inlaid with rosewood banding, the finish is very well preserved with glowing warm patina. There are a few shrinkage separations and irregularities for antique character.
The brass 8 day movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time and strikes the hour on a bell. A hand painted dial has a repainted center area and numerals. The four corners of the earth are original, depicted as Africa, Asia, America and Europe.
At the top is the famous naval "Battle of Trafalgar," the rocking ship is connected to the clock escapement, and has been repainted. The door has old wavy glass on this historic furniture.
The maker "Ger. Neilson" is unknown, there were Neilsons recorded in Glasgow at that time.
Measurements are 26 1/2" wide, 11" deep and 88 1/2" tall.
